Employee Spotlight

The City of Dahlonega's Employee Spotlight page is our opportunity to recognize individuals and team efforts, as well as introduce the community to the real (and fun!) people that work at the city. If you would like to recognize a City of Dahlonega employee for a job well done, click here for the nomination form. Check back to this page often to learn about who we are and what we do!

Avery Whitehead

98bd57e2-b2d8-487c-85e1-861f9d18bf20This month's Employee Spotlight features Avery Whitehead. Avery started working for the City of Dahlonega in July of 2016 and said that his favorite part about working here is making people happy on the square. Avery's favorite restaurant in Dahlonega is Picnic Cafe (especially the coffee!). When he's not at work Avery is probably either hunting, hiking or fishing at the reservoir. If he could do anything in the world it would be to swim with whale sharks. We are so appreciative of Avery and all of his hard work every day!

The City of Dahlonega recognizes Avery as an outstanding member of the team and we are honored to highlight him in this month's Employee Spotlight!

Wendi Covert

WendiNovember's Employee Spotlight features Wendi Covert. Wendi and her family moved to Dahlonega seven years ago when her husband, Joe, was offered a position as an Associate Professor in Science Education at the University of North Georgia. Wendi began working in the Finance Department's Accounts Payable just over a year ago. In that role she ensures all the bills are paid and received in a timely manner and in accordance with the City's financial purchasing policy. Wendi is a team player and also assists as a Customers Service Representative when necessary. When asked what is the most interesting thing about her position, Wendi reminded us that it is accounting so not terribly glamorous! She reworded the question to then describe her favorite part of her position is all of the business owners and residents of Dahlonega she gets to meet and the other City of Dahlonega employees she works with on a regular basis.

Wendi and Joe have 3 children, ages 15, 11, and 5. They also have 10 chickens, 2 goats, and 1 dog. When given the spare time, Wendi enjoys reading, watching Netflix, and hanging out with her family.
